After WWII, the Soviet Air Force occupied it until the collapse of the USSR in the 1990s. It has been left abandoned every since, falling into ruin year-by-year. I spent a few hours searching the base for the bas-relief; with the sun setting and the light failing fast, I was running out of time. Finally, I found it hidden in a most unusual place, a small collapsing building overgrown and looking thoroughly uninteresting from the outside!
